in English...
Over thirty weeks, Portuguese writer Gonçalo Cadilhe travelled across 15 countries and three oceans, following the life and voyages of the greatest Portuguese navigator of all time – Ferdinand Magellan (1480-1521) who was the first man to circumnavigate the earth.
The book of Cadilhe ( “In the footsteps of Magellan”) is a sort of travelogue: he himself travels along the places Magellan had been in. There are no certainties regarding Magellan birth date; or the place he was born in (Ponte da Barca,…or Sabrosa in Vila Real….). About the first years of his life little is known; and yet “Magellan had been everywhere” wrote Cadilhe. His fleet was composed of 260 men; only 18 returned to Spain, as survivors. He’s one of the 3 great seafarers, just as Italian Colombo, or British James Cook.
Classes 10B and 10C projects included reading the book, making research, creating prezi /powerpoint presentations, making videos using google earth and sharing their work.
The projects were supervised by the Portuguese teacher, Ana Sancho, and the Teacher-librarian, Fernanda Ledesma (D. João II Secondary School - Setúbal – Portugal) .
